Don Pooh A major player in the billion dollar global industry known as Hip Hop music, Don Pooh has played a pivotal role in shaping the business and image of the art form that we know and love today. As head of both Don Pooh Management and DP Music Group, the Brooklyn, New York native has had a hand in and guided the careers of some of the most successful and celebrated names in contemporary music. The ambitious entrepreneur has now taken his business acumen to new heights with his own restaurant franchise, Famous Seafood. From the outset of his career, Don Pooh has matched his exceptional executive skills with equally remarkable performers. Early on, he worked with the management company that represented the greatest Hip Hop artist of all time - the late, great Notorious B.I.G. As a driven visionary, it was Don Pooh who discovered and managed Hip Hop starlet Foxy Brown, catapulting her career to multi-platinum success. During Don Pooh’s tenure, Foxy collaborated with music superstars including LL Cool J, Jay-Z, Toni Braxton and Sean “Diddy” Combs. She was also a premiere member of the Hip Hop super group The Firm, which Don Pooh also co-executive produced. Don Pooh went on to discover Hip Hop sensation Shyne. As a reward for his continued success within the recording industry, in 1999 he accepted the esteemed position of Executive Vice President at MCA Records, then home to a slew of chart topping artists including Mary J. Blige, Heavy D, The Roots and K-Ci & Jo Jo. While at MCA, Don Pooh co-executive produced Mary J. Blige’s No More Drama album, which earned the multi-platinum megastar her first Grammy Award, and certainly upped the wattage of the spotlight for Don Pooh and his accomplishments. He re-mixed MCA international reggae artist Shaggy’s hit single “It Wasn’t Me,” which catapulted sales of his Hotshot album past the 10 million mark worldwide. Currently, singer/songwriter Wynter Gordon is signed to Don Pooh Music Group, which has a joint venture deal at Atlantic Records. Her project will be released winter 2007. Whatever the enterprise, Don Pooh has always struck gold by identifying people’s career needs and fulfilling them. He recognized that “Music is life,” and that knowledge has served him spectacularly. Along those lines, if music is life, it can be said that food is the fuel. Food is the answer. In 2003, Don Pooh ventured into the restaurant franchise world by establishing five Papa John’s restaurants in New York City. He also opened up The Reign Lounge in Brooklyn’s trendy Clinton Hills area, and found that he had discovered his new calling. Don Pooh poised himself to create his own franchise, which he coined Famous Seafood. With three locations in New Jersey, Manhattan and Brooklyn, this concept is on a fast pace to become the top seafood franchise in the market. With several new ventures in the works, Don Pooh is setting the trend for a new era of executive branding strategies and creative entrepreneurialism.
