Under the earth’s surface in the rough waters of the deep blue sea, the ocean’s creatures exist under one motto: hunt or be hunted. But along their voyage of survival, each organism, from the tiny flounder to the mighty marlin, knows its position in the food chain. That is to say, while establishing roles and defining leaders of the underworld, these same animals put aside all egos and immediately bow down when the King of Kings comes through. Feared and respected by all, he is Kertasy, AKA the black Vince Chase of the rap game.

Kertasy has just released his new single and video for “Fresh 2 Def” in conjunction with Brooklyn-based Debonair Records. Fully equipped with his eclectic blend of Hip Hop, Gabson Augustin, better known as Kertasy – emerges onto the scene as the breath of fresh air we’ve all been gasping for.

At just 21 years old, the Elizabeth, New Jersey, native built on the past three years of musical writing and recording experience to deliver his second street mixtape, rightfully titled Kockback and Reloaded- Leave a Message Vol. 2. Having opened up for acts such as Eve, Benzino, Lil Kim and Sean Paul broadcast live on Power 105, and working alongside super producer R. Kelly, Kertasy manifests his vision of musical diversity in the volatile world of entertainment.

The perfect mix of street and suave, Kertasy has the makings of a great artist. “I’m not the average kid trying to rap, I’m not trying to be like another Jay-Z or 50 Cent,” explains Kertasy. “Actually, I don’t even want to be categorized as strictly a rapper because my music goes beyond that.”

And indeed it does. On his last single “Drinkin my Money,” the multifaceted artist displays a bit of his vocal ability as he provides a catchy jingle and equally catchy lyrics guaranteed to be a summer hit. A play on a Creole term “Drinkin my Money,” the song provides humor and entertainment all under the guise of clever wordplay. “It’s living the life to the fullest and having fun,” explains Kertasy. “Whether you’re on a foreign island with your lady sipping champagne, or on the block drinking barbancourt with family and friends – it’s about enjoying the fruits of your labor.”

Kertasy linked up with production and management company, Debonair Records in the pursuit of solidifying a label/distribution deal for the project. Together they released the mixtape Kockback and Reloaded – Leave a Message Vol. 1 hosted by the Harlem Diplomats. The mixtape spawned two club hits “All Eyes” and “Move Dat Ass”.

With the video for “All Eyes” currently playing on local video channels, and with radio airplay in Boston, Connecticut and Music Choice, and his three appearances on the Vibe Magazine College Tour with Juelz Santana, Little Brother, Fabolous, and Cherie Deniss, Kertasy is making his presence felt in a big way.

Kertasy, who first created a buzz in his native Elizabeth, New Jersey, says his style has immensely changed and expanded from his early start. “I listen to every single type of music,” he says. “When I was younger, my favorite artists were B.I.G, Jay-Z, Wu Tang and Tupac to name a few. I’ll bump the R&B while I’m driving, then throw in a Tupac CD when I get home. The rock, Hip Hop, R&B and reggae – all of that together makes Kertasy.

“I just feel like this is what I’m meant to do,” he continues emphatically. “This is why God put me here, to utilize my talents. I don’t talk too much about guns and violence because not every body Gang Bang. My music is for every one, young or old. I want my music to reflect what’s going on in my life at the time. I make a song for every different emotion a human has.”. “So many rappers get caught up in talking tough and being a gangsta. I want to show the world that you can be a gangsta and still make good music. I want to make people get up and dance, not fight all the time”

On his latest offering “Fresh 2 Def,” his hardcore street persona emerges as heavy guitar rifts provide the backdrop for Kertasy to rhyme. One moment he spits: “Song lyrics?” And the next he’s reciting a big, catchy chorus. Kertasy explain “This is me, Mr. Fresh 2 Def

This song is for every body who love getting fly. You can be broke and not have a penny and still look Fresh 2 Def. When you walk down the street people will look at you like you have a million Dollars. “Being Fresh 2 Def is a way a life not a state of mind.”

I’m The Vince Chase of my Entourage, so make way world, I’m just getting started. Life as we know it will never be the same.
